RDaSH has just launched a new service model, and Dr Heighton the new Psychiatrist says it will stop people from falling through the net.
"It's about having quicker and easier access to services and a more flexible response rather than a blanket response.
"To allow everybody to access care, the service needs to be streamlined so people aren't coming in from all different routes.
"It will be like a one-stop shop when it is established."
Previously, mental health patients would be referred to care services through a clutter of different pathways.
But under the new system, anyone wanting help can ring a single phone number.
And when people receive care, it will be tailored to the individual.
"I will manage the home treatment team that is designed to provide a personal service out of hospital, which some people prefer to happen," said Dr Heighton. "We're working to develop the home treatment access.
"Sometimes people prefer to be in hospital when they're under stress, and that is still an option.
"But there's a lot of scope with the treatments we've got available to support people in the community."
The new access team will look at the needs of everyone who is flagged to them as requiring help.
The team will then decide on the best form of help for the individual service user.
This could be seeing a specialist treatment team or receiving help in the community.
The service user will be asked their opinion and given the support that works best for them.
Dr Heighton said: "It's not just about providing a speedy response, but also a quality response."
The new telephone number is 01724 382015.
Well done to the 6 members of VOICE who braved the heavy rain in Brigg to help raise awareness about mental health in the workplace. The event was part of the National Time to Change Anti-stigma project. This year's theme for National Mind week was focused on mental health and work and. Claire registered the event with the Time to Change organisers and received a promotional pack which included Time to Talk tee-shirts for the volunteers, along with banners to decorate our stand.
The pack also included bags, pens, badges and balloons. The group gave out leaflets and the other freebies to the people in Brigg, who were very receptive. We even managed to collect just over £76 for our local Mind Group. To see some more photos from the day, visit the Photo Album section on the left hand menu.
Come and join us at the re-launched WRAP group. The group is now based at Scunthorpe and District Mind, Printer's Yard, Fenton Street. The WRAP group meets every Wednesday from 1pm to 3pm.
WRAP stands for Wellness Recovery Action Planning and helps you to have a real say in your care. Come to the group and make new friends, feel more confident and improve your mental health.
The first hour we look at different parts of a WRAP document and there are opportunities to work on your own WRAP in a group setting. Or if you feel more comfortable, a volunteer/facilitator can work with you on a one to one basis.
During the second hour we will be using some different wellness tools, these are things that help us to feel and stay feeling well. There are too many to list all here, but they include craft activities, listening to music, watching a comedy DVD, creative writing, poetry, aromatherapy, walking ......... Bring your own ideas along too.
We are a very friendly group, but if you are a bit nervous, bring your Mental Health Worker with you at first.
